Big Spoon nut butters are handcrafted using the best possible ingredients, such as fresh runner variety peanuts from the Carolinas, wildflower honeys from the NC Piedmont, NC pecans, California Mission-variety almonds, and pristine sea salt. Unlike many “natural” nut butter companies, we don’t believe in adding palm oil to our nut butters to stop the natural oil separation that can occur a few weeks after grinding. In addition to environmental concerns about palm oil production, we see no reason to add ingredients that don’t contribute to flavor, freshness, or sustainability, which are paramount to our ingredient choices. If your jar of Big Spoon has a little oil at the top, rest assured that it’s from the nuts in the jar, stir it back in, and enjoy! All of our nut butters also contain freshly harvested wildflower honey, which not only enhances flavor, but also serves as a natural preservative that prevents staling and spoilage. And so, there is no need to refrigerate our nut butters (unless you just like them cold).
