To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art. -François de La Rochefoucauld
When Seattle, WA-based Pasta & Co. was founded in 1982, it was truly innovative. Housemade pasta, sauces, side dishes, and a small selection of diligently selected pantry items lined the shelves. Marcella & Harvey Rosene started the business “with no more food credentials than a history of good home cooking and two lively palates.” But when word of her incredible fresh pasta spread, the store became a hit. Many years of success and two cookbooks later, the Rosenes sold the business to Sugar Mountain, headed by local entrepreneur Kurt Dammeier.
With the purchase of Pasta & Co, Dammeier began forming an impressive family of food businesses which grew to include Beecher’s Handmade Cheese, Maximus/Minimus food truck, Bennett’s Pure Food Bistro, Mishima Reserve, The Cellar, and Beecher’s Pure Foods Kids Foundation. The common theme: a dedication to pure foods without artificial additives. They set about updating the Pasta & Co. recipes to remove all nitrates, food coloring, hydrogenated oil, and other additives. Their pantry selection was also updated to include only items free of such ingredients.
These days, the iconic Seattle shop continues to wow customers at their two locations with fresh-made pasta, a deli counter packed with prepared foods, and carefully selected pantry items like our handmade nut butters. We are so happy to work with this groundbreaking purveyor of delicious food in Seattle.
