Wyler’s is one of our longest standing retail partners. Well, sort of. The charming modern general store located in Brunswick, ME, was founded in 1991 as a pottery studio that morphed over the years into a shop that offered a curated and quirky selection of everything from clothing to local pottery, housewares, gifts, accessories, and toys. In May of 2012, Wyler’s owner, Sylvia Wyler and partner Sharon Smiley went for a drive to Portland, ME, to pick up fresh bread, artisanal cheese, wine, and local produce (a regular Sunday ritual) and an idea struck Sharon: why not bring this experience of a neighborhood market to Brunswick. By the time they reached their destination, the plan to open a second, food-focused shop, was fully hatched. Six weeks later Local Market & Cafe opened. The shop offered carefully selected locally made specialty foods, wines, and beers as well as a cafe menu and a selection of cookware.
When a local option of a particular item they wanted to stock wasn’t available, Sylvia and Sharon would look elsewhere for the best version they could find. We were honored when they reached out to us to bring our handmade nut butter to downtown Brunswick. But, after six years running both Wyler’s and Local Market the pair decided it was time to slow down a bit and made the decision to close the latter this past October and combine the concepts. So, Wyler’s evolved once more to include an expanded pantry and cookware section. Happily, they brought our nut butters over to the shop as part of the new offerings, and we’re thankful to enter our fifth year working with this special business.
