The festival brings together Piedmont, NC, farmers and dozens of local food artisans and chefs to celebrate the pepper harvest with pepper-themed dishes and products.
This year, we were grateful to receive beautiful dried habanero chilies from Fiddlehead Farm to make something for the event. You might remember Fiddlehead Farm because they not only grow produce, but also make jams, hot sauces, and pickles; we featured their stunning Good Food Award-winning Roasted Strawberry Jam as our February 2018 Featured Jam.Their habaneros provided a bright fruity flavor and substantial heat to a limited batch Pepper Festival Sweet & Spicy Peanut Butter.
To keep it hyper local, we made the nut butter with NC Runner peanuts and local raw wildflower honey that stood up to the habanero. A touch of sea salt rounded out the flavor resulting in a show-stopper that won the "Best Sweet Dish" award at the festival! We have a handful of jars remaining and we're excited to offer them on our web shop while supplies last.
