Working at Big Spoon Roasters

You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead pursue the things you love doing and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off of you. -Maya Angelou

One of our core values is that food matters, and that it should be delicious, nutritious, and good for all those involved in producing it.

That “everyone” is not a figure of speech and includes literally everyone, from farm to pantry, involved in making our extraordinary foods possible. We’re currently hiring for a Production Team Member, and we thought it would be a good time to share a little more about working here.

As a small, family-owned business, we prioritize taking care of our people and their families because healthy and inspired people are empowered to create nutritious and delicious food. When we had the vision for Big Spoon Roasters back in 2010, we had a clear goal of creating a different kind of food business, the type of place we’d like to work, that makes the kinds of no-compromise foods we love to eat, and that helps people have a healthier relationship with our planet.

Every decision is made with this vision in mind. We’re so proud of our team, which is made up of true artisans who are incredibly skilled at making our handcrafted, small-batch foods and getting them safely to our customers. Our culture, pay, benefits, wellness initiatives, and employee growth programs create a unique and meaningful workplace centered around excellence, teamwork, and respect for one another.

Full-time benefits here include:

  • A starting Living Wage at every position
  • 16 days of paid vacation and holidays a year
  • Dedicated paid sick leave
  • Subsidized medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Monthly wellness reimbursements for gym memberships, massage, child care, and more
  • Annual local food CSA reimbursements
  • Quarterly profit-sharing
  • Free weekly products and an employee discount
  • Cash bonuses for employee-nominated awards, innovation, and attendance
  • Monthly staff birthday lunches
  • Daily supply of premium snacks from friends in the food world

Is it unusual and costly for such a small business to offer such robust employee benefits? Absolutely. Is it worth it to build a healthy, dedicated, and inspired team so that we can make the best possible versions of the foods we love to eat every day? A thousand times, yes.

As we grow and reach more communities with the foods we make, we hope to continue growing our team and the positive culture they represent. Follow us on social media to meet our team and get a behind-the-scenes look at life at Big Spoon Roasters.
