This season’s Staff Picks Trio is curated by our R&D and Bar Lead, Kirby McSherry. Kirby has been with Big Spoon for two years now, and when he’s not making bars and nut butters from scratch, he’s working closely with our co-founder, Mark, to develop new recipes for our Limited Batches, R&D Club releases, and each new product we release. We’re grateful for his many talents and innovations—from new process improvements to the ways we work with our precious ingredients—as well as the laughter and positivity he radiates each day.
Each of Kirby’s Trios includes one 13oz jar, each, of the following nut butters (his words about each in italics):
Peanut Butter with Wildflower Honey
This was the first Big Spoon nut butter I tried, and I knew after tasting it that it was my new favorite—there was no going back to any other brand I’d had before.
Pistachio Crunch Almond Butter
As R&D Lead, I helped develop Pistachio Crunch from its inception. It’s been so rewarding to see it transform from a R&D product to a Limited Batch, and now to one of the most popular nut butters in our permanent lineup.
Limited Batch Vanilla Caramel Almond & Cashew Butter
Creating this Limited Batch has been one of the most fun R&D Batches to date—developing its unique flavor profile (and making a vegan caramel profile), was no small feat, and I can’t wait to hear the feedback it receives.
Kirby’s favorite part of working at Big Spoon is the opportunity to use his skills to create new products and recipes that bring people joy. His determination to create the best nut butters and bars possible shines through every task he completes and we’re so grateful to have him on our team.
When he’s not at work, Kirby loves spending time with his wife, Meredith, and their dog, Magnolia—taking walks, hikes and swims (Magnolia’s favorite!) around NC.
